Even though I just got back from my trip to the States, I've been suffering from some serious wanderlust as of late! Not like that's anything new though. Travel is without a doubt my biggest passion and if I could get paid to travel around the world and document my life, I would do it in a heart beat.

To be honest, one of the most difficult adjustments in moving to South Africa has been getting used to earning on the Rand {which doesn't go very far abroad} and having to come to terms with putting my travel plans on hold while I try to finance my studies and daily life {boring, right?}.
Luckily, I happened to fall in love with someone who also loves to travel and who is very open to living abroad in Europe, the Middle East or elsewhere for a couple of years before settling down :) So, after I finish my Master's next year, if the opportunity presents itself you can bet we will be packing our bags and heading somewhere new and exciting together!
Until that time comes though, I'll just have to be patient and live vicariously through all of my favorite expat bloggers and continue taking mental notes on all the places on my "must-see" list. In an effort to funnel all of my travel energy somewhere, I thought it would be fun to share where I've been so far via The Travel List Challenge today! I saw this on In the Pink and Green a few months ago and have been meaning to do it myself ever since. Places I've been are bolded in green and I've also added some of my own travel photos as well as some photos via Pinterest for the places I haven't been, but hope to visit in the near future :)

The Rand is one thing but the fact that we are so far away from everything is what gets me the most. If you are situated in Europe it really easy to take a long weekend trip to another country but from here...well everything feels like it is ten hours by plane!!
ReplyDeleteThe next ten hours I am flying is to Egypt in March if all goes according to plan!!
Have a great weekend en soet wees ne!
ooh, I'm definitely going to do this! I'll do it with Jon so we can keep it for decades to cross things off :) I'll let you know when it's up!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea you had visited so many places, which are quite a handful! And some of them my dream destinations too, such as Angkor Wat, Taj Mahal, Machu Pichu.
ReplyDeleteJenna, I'm jealous!
the rock of gibraltar??haa! or..mecca-where only muslims can go..some random choices on the list.
ReplyDeleteI found the same living in Africa-wonderful as it was-money did not stretch to international travel...heading to SA broke the bank a bit.
The is a major plus to being in the middle east
i've spent a good part of the last year and a half practically living out of my suitcase. and I LOVE IT! I'm headed to Ireland on Sunday, and then in November I'm on my way to moving to Finland for awhile. I found your list to be perfect to compare/add more to mine.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to go to the states :)
ReplyDeleteWanderlust is such a good word! And now I'm suffering from it... these are some amazing places!
I have been to most of the ones in the States but none of the others. :( Maybe one day!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so awesome Jen, great idea!! I have also had a bite from the travel bug lately (but a lot harder now with little SJ!)
ReplyDeleteWe are off to Vic Fall next weekend of your anniversary trip - we cannot wait!
x
Your doing pretty well so far!
ReplyDeleteThis was fun, I'm going to have to give it a go :)
Love your massive list!
ReplyDeleteI joined in the link up!

Wow! What a fun list of places to visit around the world! I'm afraid I've been to very few (and most of them within the US), but I love the suggestion and diversity of those listed! You've got quite a good headstart though! Such a fun post, and beautiful pictures. Enjoyed finding your blog for the first time today. Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteOh I would love to visit these places! How did you like Zion? And I love the quote :)
ReplyDeleteThis is neat! I've probably only been to like 5 places. Haha! I think Louisiana should be your next stop! Just saying. ; )
ReplyDeleteSucha great list! and i'm pretty jealous of your 32!! that is amazing!
ReplyDeleteCool list. I've been to 34, which is more than I thought. The sad thing is that some of these like Redwood National Forest and Napa Valley are in my own backyard and I haven't even been. I should get there soon.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Catherine
I have only been to 18 - makes me want to just grab my password and take off for some more! At least I've been to all the ones in my own city - that would be sad otherwise!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely going to try and get to all of them. Need to find a way to get paid to travel.

I'm living vicariously through blogs right now too (which is how I found your blog!). I live a ferry ride away from the Space Needle, so when you mark it off your list we can grab a drink! :)
ReplyDeletethis is fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteGreat list, good luck with completing it!
ReplyDeleteI've also just made my own travel challenge :)
http://awayfromtenerife.blogspot.nl/2012/10/my-travel-wish-list.html
Amazing list, I've been on 90,83,82,76,72,69,63,55,48,39,25,24,16,12,11,10,8,2. But still have 100 of places to go.
ReplyDeleteAmazing list and post.

I've only been to 4 places. so many places I'd love to go to but will never get to see.
ReplyDeleteOh man! I just did the challenge - I've only been to 22! I want to see them ALL and I WILL, I just know it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we can go see some of these places together :)

I've been to 36 of the things on your list (but then again I'm in my 50s so I've got a few years on you). It is a great list, but I really disagree with two of them. I think Lake Louise in Banff National Park, Alberta is far more impressive than Glacier National Park in Montana. You can see a photo of it here: http://gracie-senseandsimplicity.blogspot.ca/2010/03/friday-photo-another-view-out-window.html (although now that I look at my post again I realize we didn't have the best weather so you should look on Google and see other pictures of Lake Louise). And secondly the Canadian falls are far superior to the American falls at Niagara Falls. Everyone crosses the border to get a good look at the Horseshoe Falls which are the famous ones. I live very near Niagara Falls and we go frequently. In fact, I just wrote a post about what you can do in Niagara Falls here: http://gracie-senseandsimplicity.blogspot.ca/2012/10/niagara-falls.html. Good luck with your travelling. I would love to visit South Africa one day. My son went and also visited Botswana and loved it.
ReplyDeleteFantastic list Jenna. I love that so many are natural wonders. You've inspried me to go and write my dream list too.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful piece of photography. All of these pictures are greatly captured which attract the travelers so much towards themselves. I must say that is a great job of camerawork.
ReplyDeleteI have so much travel planned for 2016. I’ve not taken a proper vacation in years, so I’m kind of going overboard in the upcoming months. We’re visiting all over in India Just for adventure. I can’t believe we’re doing this.
